Dogs Walking

It’s a common sight, the neighbors walking their dogs. But dogs’ walking is an important part of the day. If you have trouble controlling your dogs, distractions like other dogs and cats, may make your dogs walking very tough.

Dogs Need Exercise!

Dogs need to get enough exercise. Dogs walking can give them exercise and allow them to urinate and poop. As a rule, dogs need a minimum of three walks a day.

You need to be in front of the dogs and lead the way. For dogs walking, don’t walk in back of the dogs. The dogs, then, feel that they are in charge of the walk. Instead, you want to be in charge.

It’s a Social Experience!

You can introduce dogs to other dogs. Dogs like to feel like they are part of the pack. Have the dogs walking, to keep on moving forward.

The daily dogs walking helps to give the dogs energy throughout the day. The dogs look forward to their walks, it’s a chance to go outside and smell new things.

Are You Ready to Rollerblade?

The dogs walking can be a walk, jog, run, bike ride or rollerblading. Dogs love to run, so this is a treat for them. Make sure that you watch your dog, if you ride a bike or rollerblade. These are faster sports and the dogs can get hurt.

There should be no tension in the lead.  For dogs walking, don’t constantly pull the leashes. Instead, gently pull the dogs in the direction you want.  The leash should be short and slightly loose.

It’s Those Other Dogs!

If you encounter a distraction (barking dogs), keep on moving. By stopping your walk, you let the dogs get excited and they become harder to walk.

At crosswalks, try to keep the dogs calm. You may want to talk with the neighbors, so your dogs can take a nap. Then, you can resume dogs walking, when the traffic changes.

What about Backpacks?

You can put a backpack on the dogs. Dogs like to feel like they are doing something. Load the backpack with water bottles, so you and the dogs can have a drink.

Have a Schedule!

On those cold and rainy days, you can train your dogs to run on a treadmill.   Dogs want to exercise, too. It’s a great way to keep your dogs in shape.

You Need to Rest!

For your dogs walking, make sure that you take time to rest. Have a water stop and chat with a friend. You and the dogs will be refreshed for the walk back home.

You Can Walk Your Dogs Without a Leash!

If you live in a rural area, you may be able to walk your dogs without a leash. Especially, if you are walking the dogs through the woods and the forest. Make sure that you are still in command. Have the dogs walk beside you and stop at your command.  Cats and squirrels should not be a distraction.
